The Sing-Off: Gave It No Mind, Totally Enjoying It

On Monday, the finale for NBC’s “The Sing-Off” airs. I’m kinda bummed. I wasn’t going to pay any attention to it, but since there was nothing else on on Monday, I invested some time and totally enjoyed it.

The concept is simple: a bunch of teams from around the country do popular songs a capella. The amazing part is when the song starts and you totally forget there are no instruments involved. Frankly, the show is insanely entertaining and the performances have totally made me rethink a capella in general. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it before, but I always associated it with doo-wop and subway musicians.

One of the groups is from Tufts University, and they’re called the Beelzebubs. They’re the current generation of an a capella group that has been at the university since the mid 50′s, and as of right now, at least in my mind, they’re the frontrunners to win the whole competition. To see why the show has me so interested, check out their performance of Magical Mystery Tour.

Sheer brilliance!

Like I said, the finale airs Monday, so that’ll be your last chance to catch some performances from the top three groups. Even if it’s just for the “I need something to watch that’s different” aspect, take a look. Chances are, you’ll probably enjoy it.
