Need Antivirus Software?

Let’s face reality. Unless you have a Mac or Linux computer, you probably run some kind of Antivirus because Windows is to viruses what Toyota is to stopping problems. Whether you’re looking for Norton AntiVirus 2010 or some other virus protection suite, Antivirusware.com has a solution for you.

The good part is that they don’t stop at giving you a centralized location to buy and download antivirus software, they rate and review just about every major package available for your computer so you can make an informed decision and while Norton Antivirus 2010 wins their overall award, you can pick one that’s more important for the categories that matter to you. For example, if you’re looking for an antivirus package that consumes the least amount of memory, you could go with BitDefender, which wins by a hair over Antivir.

My experiences with antivirus software in the past have been checkered. Some start out good and get worse as time go on. Some just flat out don’t work. Some others are more interested in feature bloat (ie: having the most checkboxes filled on the back of their box in the comparison table), and some simply cost too much. It’s nice to see someone taking the task of comparing antivirus software further than reading the boxes.

I find Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty lgiht weight and works alright.

Generally speaking, until I had kids etc all over my computers, I never bothered with virus protection. I prefer the tried and trusted method of “Not doing stupid shit”.

I actually install MSSE on all my machines that are Windows-based now. It does the job and is very lightweight. In fact, it's really good at heading off the fake AV software apps that like to install on Windows machines. I think this site is only for paid programs, but for free, MSSE is way better than AVG as far as I'm concerned.

I used to swear by AVG but it' become extremely bloated anymore. It just does too much these days.

AVG is despicable. They used to have the best free AV on the planet, and they went for checkbox victory.

    Shame.
