Small Businesses Would Save Money By Dropping Plans

Interestingly, CBS Evening News had this story yesterday about how small business now have an incentive to drop employees’ coverage: “Small businesses employ more than half the workers in this country and those businesses provide health insurance to nearly half of their workers, but will they continue to provide it under the new healthcare law?”

CBS added, “Last year, Allentown, Pennsylvania, businessman Dick Bus saw his company’s health insurance costs spike 33 percent. The new law seeks to limit those kinds of increases, while giving businesses incentives to cover more workers,” but “there are potential problems. Case in point: It would be much cheaper for Dick Bus to drop the generous coverage he now offershis 120 workers.Saving $390,000 is tempting, but Bus says he’ll keep his plans. If he did force his workers into the health plan exchange, it could cost them more than they’re paying now.”

My only question is: Why wasn’t CBS reporting about this before the bill passed?

1. CBS believes what they say when they call all opposition to the Great Onetm racism.

2. CBS wanted to see the bill passed so they dare not air any legitimate objections.

3. Had CBS aired legitimate objections, it would put them at odds with their consistent stance that the opposition didn’t have any legitimate objections.

4. CBS didn’t get around to actually reading the plan until now.

5. All of the above.

I lean toward 5.
