Vin, you make no mention at all in this clip about alternative healing techniques that aren’t necessarily quacky. You’ve stayed exclusively on the material level, discounting entirely the power of the mind to heal the organism. http://www.facebook.com/TheLivingMatrix

I’d like to know what you think…

Alternative healing techniques aren’t vaccinations. The mind isn’t going to stop you from getting Measles if your parents are too dumb to vaccinate you, as an example.

Have you seen the PBS Frontline episode on this? It aired a few months ago and can be seen online. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it. Especially towards the end when a doctor asks anti-vax mothers about their responsibility towards the vulnerable. It’s priceless.

Seven children have died from whooping cough in CA this year. That’s seven too many. All of them were too young to have been vaccinated themselves (i.e. <6mo). Parents, imho, are selfish when they choose not to vaccinate their children. It is the obligation of the strong to protect the weak in this crowded society we live in. Herd immunity relies on the majority to vaccinate. This is a large reason why I barely left the house for the first year of my twins’ lives. Thankfully, many pediatricians, including ours, will not see children whose parents refuse to vaccinate them.

The funny thing is that these same people that deny science in this issue are the same people that have a coronary if you dare question the science around climate change (which is still really unproven) or evolution (proven imho, but let’s be consistent).

One more point for the anti-vax crowd– if we all follow the CDC/WHO’s recommendation on vaccinations, we WILL eradicate many of these diseases. What does that mean? No more vaccines! (Remember smallpox? Remember the smallpox vaccine? Me, neither.)

And yes, Californians are f#$%ing idiots.

Obviously this is a hot-button topic for me. Thanks for bringing it up, Vinny. (Sorry ’bout the rant!)

I suspect — though I’m not one for anti-vaccination — that a healthy combination of meds and other healing techniques — that don’t involve shamanistic chats, chakras, and other tomfoolery — will work best. We’re not talking about measles, but of certain “miraculous” recoveries from certain strains of previously raging (and seemingly terminal) cancers. The mind is a powerful instrument. Look at yours.
