Jon Stewart Approaches Saturday’s Shootings With Class

Give credit where it’s dude, Stewart knocks it out of the park. (Video below)

The most impressive part that stuck with me was when he discussed how we’re obviously good people for the most part because even people who speak in hyperbole crash back to earth and are shocked when hyperbole becomes reality. I also like that he didn’t try to pin this on political discussion or anything else.

He’s right about one thing; this does provide us an opportunity to elevate our political dialog beyond hyperbolic and nasty comments. Of course it won’t be taken, but the opportunity is there and we will actively choose to miss it rather than take it.

Somehow, a guy whose entire shtick is skewering the media just showed more maturity about a terrible tragedy than the media has shown in 5 days. Maybe that’s a bigger indicator of where we are as a country than anything else.
