Another Gray Cache, Another Success Anyway

There’s a geocacher in the area of my office who finds some crazy out of the way places to hide caches. The cool part is that they’re a few miles from my office so I can take a nice walk afterward to hunt them down. So far, I’ve found 3 caches in after-work excursions.

Yesterday was a day where I wasn’t expecting to go hunting. In fact, I was kinda bummed about it, but I had one in mind in case I changed my mind. I walked to the train like I always do, but just before I got there, I decided that the misty air wasn’t a deterrent and decided to go cache hunting.

I think for the first time since I started doing this, I felt like I was going to die. I had to cross the Long Island Railroad tracks (something I’m deathly afraid of to begin with; I don’t know why. I guess I always think I’m going to be the one person for whom the gate fails and I’m gonna get run over) and then walk through a neighborhood that was relatively empty and pretty damn scary. Without my GPS, though (which I just didn’t feel like taking out) I walked right to the cache area and peeked around for the cache. I found it, then breathed a sigh of relief because my venture wasn’t for nothing.

On the bright side, it had an excellent view of Newtown Creek!

An otherwise mediocre night weatherwise turned into a nice night because of a cache find. That works for me!

Hope you had a fun evening as well.
