Michelle Tells You What To Eat, Husband Scarfs Chili Dogs

When his wife unveiled the USDA’s new nutritional plate yesterday, there definitely wasn’t a space for chili dogs.

But that didn’t stop Barack Obama wolfing down two in Toledo today – with fries and an extra bowl of chili on the side.

The president happily munched on the unhealthy meal before he visited the city’s Chrysler factory, and even teased one of his hosts for ordering ketchup, a faux-pas in his home town of Chicago.

Getting stuck in: President Obama wolfs down a chili dog and fries at the famous Rudy's Hot Dog in Toledo

Socialism is for the people, not the socialists.

Hang on, amigo. I thought you’ve been telling us that you can eat different things…it’s the calories that you have to count. I’m with that idea. And I don’t think Obama is suffering…at least Barack. Michelle, as we have seen, is packing it on. I do think it’s a good idea to give people good eating ideas…but as we all know, it doesn’t really help if a person doesn’t want the help.

I do, and I continue to, but I’m also not telling people what to eat to combat obesity, am I?

See, that’s the thing.  I’m very big on people leading by example.  On the day that we hear about balanced diets, limiting fat salt and sugar, and eating more healthy, the President eats what is quite possibly the most unhealthy junkfood lunch you can have.

I applaud him for doing what he wants, eating what he wants, and maintaining his excellent physical condition, but my point is more that it seems like the regulations are not for the regulators, you know?  Kind of how people will tell you to go green and live in a 90,000 square-foot house with two cars and a heated pool.

If anything, the President’s physique is a perfect example of why the food pyramid and now the food plate are total bullshit.  He eats quite poorly on a regular basis and look at the guy!

Vin, I’m with you on a couple of points — I do think there are some people are engineered to be thinner…the Prez being one. I, on the other hand, have some weird violation of the laws of physics and gain more weight than I eat. It’s all about calories for me…and carbs to tell you the truth.

I don’t like being told what to do on so many fronts. And you bet, it’s essential to lead by example. It’s why I think your deal is so compelling…you’re not preaching, you’re just saying what works. And you don’t call people out, you just do it with discipline and aplomb. I would like a world where we had plenty of information, and far fewer people reaching out to tell us what to do. I’m all over that.

Um, I like Coney Dogs, btw. That frigging thing looks awesome.

I feel ya man.  I’m always down for a dog.

I think the lesson we need to take away from this is that the gov’t shouldn’t be telling people how to eat or what to eat in general.  People are different.  I have a friend who’s 5’4, eats like the horse to end all horses, and has the absolute perfect body.  Food ain’t her problem, either.

I’m a big mother.  I’m 6’1 and 347.  If I do any exercise at all, I lose weight every single time.  If I don’t, and just eat less, I lose weight.  I didn’t get the way I am through some fault of someone else, and I didn’t pack on pounds when I was younger because I paid attention to the food pyramid, nor will I lose weight by paying attention to the food plate and that’s what’s obnoxious about the whole thing.
I think health decisions and dietary info are for you to discuss with your doctor, not your President, and if you are going to be in the public eye telling me what to eat to be healthy, you shouldn’t be eating two dogs, chili, fries, and whatever else with a camera on you.  Hell, remember that white house dinner they had a few months ago with all the soul food on the plate (which sounded spectacular)?  If you ate that meal, it was almost 5,000 calories just for dinner and dessert, not counting bread, appetizers, and drinks.  Do I trust the people who do that to tell me what I’m doing wrong in MY life?  No.  Not one bit.

Another example would be Jamie Oliver, Mr. “You should know what you eat and eat better” whose restaurants contain exactly no caloric information and ingredient info, but who regularly criticizes everyone else for doing the same.  He wants everyone to change, just not him.
