If you believe that “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people,” then you have to agree that states control their own legal definition of marriage, and that such definitions are subject to the state political and judicial processes. 

That political process in NY State was ugly at times, but it resulted in passage of a definition of marriage which, while contrary to the historical and religious definitions, likely is acceptable to the majority of people in NY State.

I couldn’t agree more. Spot on analysis from one of the best minds in the conservative blogosphere.
