Local Pols Want End to Horse-Drawn Carriages

Two state legislators are stepping up their efforts in the fight against horse-drawn carriages, calling on New York City to ban the “outdated entertainment practice” a day after several people were injured when a taxi slammed into a hansom cab.

alg_carriage_accident.jpgState Sen. Tony Avella (D-Queens) and Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) today are insisting the city does away with the carriages for the sake of public safety.

““This City, and others like it, can no longer justify these serious and real-life risks to preserve a fairytale entertainment industry,” Avella said in a statement.

“It is time we put this industry out to pasture and ban it entirely.”

I completely agree. The horses are mistreated, don’t belong in a city, and shouldn’t be forced to haul some fat stupid tourist through Central Park so they can pretend they’re royalty. Enough is enough.

And if you think it’s okay, I’ll attach a coach to your back and you can pull me through Central Park. See how you like it.

This whole Hansom cab thing is a relic and it needs to be buried.
