Rahm Emanuel Turns City of Chicago Into Parents

The mayor of Chicago imposed a new bedtime Friday on the Windy City’s youngest citizens.

Hoping to crack down on crime, Mayor Rahm Emanuel approved a new curfew on kids under 12 that requires them to be inside by 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and by 9 p.m. on the weekends.

“I grew up with a curfew,” Emanuel said. “When the lights on the street went on, you took your tail and made it home.”

That, Emanuel said, is “what I believe is the right policy for the safety and security of our kids.”

Parents who let their kids run wild after the curfew twice in a calendar year face $500 fines or community service, the mayor said.

Three times and the fines bump up to $1,500, he said.

Yes Rahm, you did grow up with a curfew, but it was set by your parents.

It continues to amaze me how the left (and frankly, in some cases, the right) always cite things their parents did for them as kids as reasons to set some government policy now. Mayor Emanuel seems to think that since his parents had a curfew for him, it’s okay for him to have one for everyone’s kids.

Unreal. Forget the chiding of the government as the Nanny State; they’ve outwardly taken over the role as parents.
