Where do I stand on issues?

Abortion

An abomination to life and those that believe in it. I’m still not sure how I feel about abortion in cases of rape/incest/molestation, but other than that, I’m pretty steadfast in how I feel about it. It must go. Period.

Environment

Climate change is probably more hysteria than fact, but that doesn’t mean we can treat the planet like crap and just hope it bounces back. We should be doing everything in our power to preserve the planet and take care of it for our children and our grandchildren.

Guns

There’s a reason guns are the second amendment, right after free speech. A nation that relies on its government for defense of its self and its property is a nation oppressed. Common sense gun laws are fine. Bans and oppressive regulation are not.

Cuba

The “Spite Embargo” is bullshit and should be ended now. We deal with China, a far bigger oppressor of its people than Cuba ever would or could be; holding onto this 1960’s era embargo is like a staring contest between two idiots. It’s time to move on.

God

God is everywhere but He doesn’t give you awards, trophies, or success. He gives you a brain and life; what you do with it is up to you. God has better things to do than make sure you win the Heisman trophy.

Gay Marriage

What’s the damn problem? If Bob and Fred get married, I’m still happily married. Enough is enough; there are way more important issues to deal with. Same goes for gay adoption and don’t ask don’t tell. Holding onto this stupidity accomplishes nothing. Freedom is freedom and the less government intervention, the better.

Capitalism

Capitalism is fine. Greed is actually good. So is regulation. In an unregulated free market, people would sell each other into slavery because that’s where the money is. Too much regulation, however, can kill the market. Finding balance is key.

Taxes

Less is always better. There’s no reason the US Tax Code shouldn’t be 1 page front and back. A flat tax with no loopholes would be much better for the economy than consistently taking more and more from the “rich” to fund projects and pork. No one should ever have to work more than half a year to pay taxes. The idea that there even is a 50% tax bracket should make people ill. After all, who wants to work half a year for nothing?

Capital Punishment

Barbaric and wrong, and doesn’t serve as a deterrent or as a fitting punishment. I believe strongly in the idea that it’s better for 1000 guilty people to go free than it is for 1 innocent person to die. These aren’t the days of Hamurabi, and this isn’t “an eye for an eye.”

Universal Health Care

I’m all for it, but optionally, not in a mandatory fashion. When you consider that the percentage of Americans who don’t have health care is so infinitesimally small, it’s a better idea to insure those who aren’t then to force-change the whole system. The system needs reform, but first and foremost we need to fix what’s broken for the people who need it most as opposed to changing it for everyone.
