All comments on the site are now powered by Facebook! Seeing as most of my engagement was happening there anyway, I decided to commit to it.

The good news is you can leave a comment here and your comment posts on Facebook as well. Also, if you’re logged into Facebook, you’re set for commenting here.

We’ll see how this goes. I don’t know if it’ll be permanent, but I think it’s worth a go.

Update: Had a few issues with it. Disabled until I can figure them out.

I’ve been doing this site for a long time. It opened in January of 2002 and, for the most part, I haven’t really collected a ton of money for the work I’ve put into it. Even so, that never stopped me from putting out content that I thought would entertain, enlighten, or improve the lives of the people who read this site on a regular basis.

I’ve tried doing ads, but honestly, I feel slimy every time I run one, so I’ve killed that (aside from a few obligations I have to maintain, you’ll notice there are no ads on this site and there won’t be for the forseeable future). There are no banners, no popups; nothing to get in the way.

I’m not delusional. I understand that even $5 a month is a lot for some people, so I’m not going to make subscribing mandatory; frankly, I’m not in a place where I can do that to people, so here’s what I’m offering instead…

I’m implementing a subscriber system, but it’s entirely on the honor system. If you like what you see and think the content is worth it, you can pay monthly or yearly ($5 a month or $50 a year respectively). If you like what you see and can’t swing it, that’s fine also. No one has a gun to your head.

Just a reminder of what you get from Insignificant Thoughts and IT.tv:

- Regular posts about everything from entertainment to politics to pop culture.
- 1 video daily of about a 5 minute length (most of the time more) weekday or weekend.

If that’s worth a fiver a month to you, then go for it. Some of you have told me that you love my site and my videos and have asked in the past if there was something you could do. Here it is (this is also available in the upper left of the sidebar).

I spend an inordinate amount of time on YouTube now. In fact, I would say that, not counting the Mets, Jets, Knicks and Devils, I watch as much YouTube video as I do television. What do I watch? Good question. Here are the top 5 (in no particular order) with samples of their respective work…

1. Loren Feldman: I know he hates when I say shit like this, but I consider Loren a mentor. We share a very similar philosophy: there’s a lot of crap out there and it’s fun to poke fun at it. He does it with a certain amount of enthusiasm that makes me green with envy. I enjoy the lancing of sacred cows and no one does it better than Loren. He’s not safe for work (most of the time) and whether it’s he or one of his many puppets, Loren truly is a genius.

2. Adam Daniel Mezei: One of the smartest people I have the pleasure of knowing. He’s done many videos on topics that I initially thought I’d have no interest in and ended up riveted by. He talks about social media, business, China, Europe… You name it, he hits on it. The boy hasn’t lost my interest yet and I look forward to his daily dispatches wherever they come from.

3. Charles Trippy / Shaycarl: Why two together? I don’t know. I just kinda see them as one big blob of entertainment. Both of them post a video a day on their channel. Shay has been doing it for a little over a year and Charles is about to approach the one year mark. Essentially, they go about their daily life and film it. I know. It doesn’t sound interesting, but it is. In fact, it’s more than interesting: it’s strangely compelling. Don’t take my word for it; go watch. (One of the Charles Trippy videos below).

4. =3 / Viral Video Film School: Both of these shows round up the best viral videos and string ‘em together with hysterical commentary. VVFS is somewhat irregular in their postings, but =3 comes out twice a week and is one of the shows I most look forward to. Ray is a comic genius with awesome timing. Lots of inside jokes with =3, but once you start knowing the lingo, it’s even funnier. VVFS is somewhat more slickly produced, but it’s still a keeper and Brett Ehrlich will crack you up. Here’s the latest from Ray William Johnson of =3:

5. Greeting Card Emergency: David Ellis Dickerson is a damn funny guy. He also just so happens to have been a writer for Hallmark. In his videos, he designs cards for situations that are out of the ordinary; basically situations you won’t be able to get an off-the-shelf card for. He does it with charm, comedy, and a pretty good insight into the way people think and feel. Very entertaining, even though he has gotten to be slightly irregular in his postings lately…

So that’s what I’m watching. I’m watching many more, honestly, but these are the “top five.” Anyone I should be turned on to? Leave it in the comments so we can all enjoy!

Every once in awhile, you come across a pretty cool blog that you haven’t seen before. Today I found a new one called Habitation of Justice. He’s a christian blogger who shows a bunch of traveling photos, and has some great posts about life in New York City (yeah, I’m partial to fellow New Yorkers).

Now you’re probably wondering why I featured this guy? This post was the clincher. Check this out:

So I’m in court today (don’t ask), waiting to take the elevator down so I can head out and buy more brownies, when this black lady walks up to wait with me, and starts ranting away about something, presumably on the cell phone. We got into the elevator, and she continues to keep on ranting as we went down. Loud too. The only thing I could catch was something about “Brown” and “white people” in “Massachusetts.”

When I caught that, I had to stifle a grin. But then I realized something else. She wasn’t on the phone. I thought she had been railing away on the cell via a bluetooth headset, but she was actually just ranting out loud to no one in particular.

When I realized that, it was all I could do not to burst out laughing. I moved to the corner of the elevator, desperately trying to hold my face together with my hand. Finally the doors opened up and she walked out, still railing away. “….&*#$ white people!!”

I just broke out laughing from there, then headed out the doors, taking in the cool air and the warm sunshine. My brownie will be extra tasty today.

I know it’s bad form to copy a whole post, but man this made me laugh. It’s as if everyone on the left came unglued when Martha Coakley lost. ***** white people. *sigh*

Anyway, Lincoln has some great posts over there so if you’re up for it, go check him out and maybe even send him some link love. He earned it, particularly with that last post.

PS: Check out this post, also. See if you recognize the building. It’s a definite indicator of your geekiness.

Just so you know, Rudy Giuliani is as dumb as Dana Perino.

President Obama yesterday took personal responsibility for failures in the Christmas day terror plot, but Rudy Giuliani still isn’t convinced.

I spoke to the former mayor of New York City this morning on GMA, who assailed the Obama administration’s decisions on national security.

“What he [Obama] should be doing is following the right things that Bush did — one of the right things he did was treat this as a war on terror. We had no domestic attacks under Bush. We’ve had one under Obama,” Giuliani said. “Number two, he should correct the things that Bush didn’t do right. Sending people to Yemen was wrong, not getting this whole intelligence thing corrected.”

Giuliani isn’t quite correct in his assessment. The Sept. 11, 2001 attacks happened during the Bush administration, as well as the case involving shoe bomber Richard Reid.

I wish you could imprison people for criminal stupidity.

Fashion incubator is a forum for independent seamstresses and sewing enthusiasts to share tips for running their own businesses and maybe sharing job referrals, etc. The problem is that it’s run by someone with a strange kind of complex.

Firstly, in her forum, she disappears posts. That by itself is enough of a no-no, but at least she’s within her rights to do so.

Secondly, when someone dares question her about it, she deletes that post and starts attacking the person.

Thirdly, she starts going after the questioner and attacking the questioner’s business in an attempt to discredit her.

All this under the guise of being a place you can turn to for advice on growing your business.

Kathleen Fasanella of Fashion Incubator is someone to avoid. If you want to grow your home sewing business, you’re much better off doing it yourself. At least you won’t have the person you think is going to help you trying to destroy you.

101 Dead Armadillos has lots of data on the kind of tactics Kathleen Fasanella uses, including smearing people on Del.icio.us. It’s despicable and she needs to be called out on it. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.
